Art toy design.
Direction and design.
CLIENT: Personal project / YEAR: 2004
In 2004 I wanted to design an art toy but the high production cost among other issues bring me to rethink the project.
This is how born Cutnejo, a free paper art toy. It's an ecological, didactic, harmless, funny, and sweet character, Free for download and available to any corner of the world at any time on the clock. You can choose its size, lives when one takes care of it, and with no need to be fed.
I created the DeviantArt and Flickr Cutnejo community where thousands of fans joined around the world, making his own vision of Cutnejo, even fan-arts. Amazing artists like Jared Nickerson, BToy, Raquel Aparicio among other great ones join the project.
Cutnejo in Urban Funke
Amena invited me to create a Cutnejo Space in the Urban Funke Festival in Barcelona 2005. We built a tinny space at the festival where everyone could build their own Cutnejo.
Cutnejo as a tool
One of the happiest moments of my career was when I've received an email from an educator in Brazil. He sent me photos of his class where a group of children showed their new toys, a bunch of Cutnejos. Over the years I've been receiving emails and articles where teachers and educators use Cutnejo as a tool and a toy.
Months later, I was invited to the OFFF Festival, in CCB, Barcelona. Cutnejo was one of the main projects to show in the Open Room.
I exposed the project with examples of how Cutnejo was not only a design project, but a toy, an educational tool, a white canvas for another artist, and an excuse to create communities.
Cutnejo is an old project from 2004, supported by all the great artists from DeviantArt, Flickr, teachers, everybody. Today you can still find content about it on the internet, and... You can still download your own free Cutnejo!
